State regulations make it mandatory that students be in school daily. It is the responsibility of parents and/or guardians to see that children 6 to 18 years old attend school unless exempted by law or graduated from high school (Ed. Code 48200, 48400). Two hundred and forty minutes have been set by law as a minimum day's attendance at school (Section 11052). These sections prohibit truancy and tardiness.
Medical appointments should be made after school, on student free days and vacation days as much as possible. All vacations should be planned for non-school days. If your child is absent from school, we request that you do the following:
Call the attendance office at (626) 852-4500 each day of absence between 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. or a note must be delivered to the attendance office. The note should contain student name, the dates of absence, the reason for absence, and parent signature. Email Ms. Amanda Kirkpatrick for all attendance related questions at email@example.com.
Absences not verified within two school days shall be recorded as a truancy (cut).
Homework - If a student is absent and requests homework, please contact the office. Parents will need to give student name, grade, and anticipated date of return. Homework requests require 24 hours preparation time. Homework will be ready after 2:45 p.m. on the following day.
Off Campus Permits - Students who need to leave campus at any time during the school day must obtain an off campus permit in the attendance office. If a student leaves campus for any reason without an off campus permit, the absence will be considered a truancy (cut).
Notification - Parents will be notified of student absences by means of a recorded message or a personal phone call to the parent, either at home or at the work place.
